Major Division winners Firhouse Carmel won the Charlie O’Leary Cup Final with a hard fought 2-1 win over near neighbours Rathcoole Boys. The game was played in great spirits. Rathcoole Boys had the first real chance of the game when they were awarded the first of there two penalties but Ewan OHallorans penalty was fantastically saved by Firhouse Carmel Keeper Sean Hyland.
Firhouse Carmel took the lead midway through the first half with a well taken goal scored by centre half Kevin Horgan who calmly passed in it the net. Rathcoole Boys then were awarded a second penalty and this time it was Olly Hendrick who sent the Hyland the wrong way to level matters.
The 2nd half was evenly matched until 80 minutes when Jack Warren latched on to a superb pass and cut inside the defender on the right and drilled the ball under the advancing keeper to win the day. Congratulations to Firhouse Carmel number 6 Barry Gillespie on his man of the match performance.
The Cup and medals were presented to Firhouse Carmel by the evergreen Charlie O’Leary ,his son John and Granddaughter Danielle.
